Neighbourhood Support

Our Vision: Safe, Supportive, Resilient and Connected Communities

Western Bay of Plenty Neighbourhood Support is a part of the nationwide community-led Neighbourhood Support New Zealand. Since 1999 Neighbourhood Support has been a movement that brings people and neighbourhoods together to create safe, resilient, and connected communities. We believe that a well-connected community helps to improve safety, resilience, and well-being for all.

We are a registered charity and have been working alongside New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Civil Defence, and other partners and community groups to equip neighbourhoods to improve safety and connectedness, to be prepared for emergencies, and to support one another so that our communities are great places to live.

Neighbourhood Support New Zealand is a network of community organisations (member organisations) that support over 200,000 households across Aotearoa New Zealand. In the Western Bay of Plenty which includes Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Pukehina, and Te Puke we currently have over 14,500 members.

Being involved in Neighbourhood Support comes in many forms, and it is up to each individual and their member organisation what this looks like. Some members connect at street meetups and barbeques, some stay connected online and by email, and others by being part of a neighbourhood phone tree.

By staying connected and supporting each other Neighbourhood Support aims to make our homes, streets, neighbourhoods and communities safer and more caring places in which to live.
